A dairy producer from Hinchinbrooke has been ordered to pay a fine of $6000 as well as court costs for illegally disposing of livestock waste from his farming operation.
Allegations against the owner of Fermes Whispering Pine date back to 2012. The ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques is accusing him of not using a water tight facility for storing livestock waste produced on his farm and for not having taken the necessary measures to prevent this waste from reaching surface or ground water.
The producer on Moonlight Lake Rd. has thereby contravened articles 5 and 9 of the Agricultural Operations Regulation.
Furthermore, on July 28, 2012, when it was requested of him, he did not provide the Ministry with an agro-environmental fertilization plan and his record of spreading fertilizing material, thereby contravening articles 26 and 27 of the Agricultural Operations Regulation.
The Ministry is informing citizens of the Montérégie that they can report any act or deed that could impact the quality of the environment to the regional office of the Centre de contrôle environnemental du Québec at the following email address: [email protected] or by calling 450-928-7607. Citizens can also contact Urgence-Environnement at any time at 1-866-694-5454.
