Approximately 200 free meals were served up on December the 6th at Montpetit Elementary School in Saint-Chrysostome as part of the Soirées Communauté Haut-Saint-Laurent Community Nights.
Over 25 organizations attended in order to provide the people who came with information about services available to them in the region. A number of children and some adults took advantage of the opportunity to be photographed with Santa Clause.
“It’s really a community evening; people move from table to table in groups, the place was full and in the cafeteria it was as if everyone was eating and celebrating all together,” remarked Lianne Finnie, a technician with the New Frontiers School Board.
Some 150 white roses were handed out to visitors on this Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. And some visitors ventured into the staging of Les corridors de la violence amoureuse project (Intimate Partner Violence project). Manon Gauthier gave a brief presentation about the internet site for the En Bonne Compagnie dans le Haut-Saint-Laurent project whose mission is to break down isolation among seniors and ensure they are treated properly (www.enbonnecompagnie.org).
Lastly, the nutritionist for the Montérégie-Ouest CISSS took questions from parents and proposed ideas for boxed lunches.
