Residents of the Haut-Saint-Laurent are invited to the first Volunteer Appreciation Fair which is taking place on Friday, April 15 at the Adult Education Centre HAECC (24 York St., Huntingdon). The objective of the day, which has been organized as part of National Volunteer Week, is to promote action and volunteerism in the region .
Between noon and 5 p.m., a large fair has been organized where some 10 organizations will have kiosks. « The idea is to encourage matching between, individuals interested in becoming involved and organizations currently seeking volunteers, » explained Charles Gascon, a member of the organizing committee. Along with the kiosks, there will be a conference in French and English about the benefits of volunteering.
All interested citizens are invited to come and meet the organizations during the Fair and see what they have to offer. « For example, whether it’s a retired individual with accounting skills that could benefit a particular organization, or a young person wanting to upgrade his or her curriculum vitae, there is something for everyone in volunteering, » stated Gascon. « It is also an opportunity for Vision-Bénévolat, the event organizer, to remind us that all volunteering is good for the community. »
A cocktail-dinner and appreciation gala are also scheduled for the evening, starting at 7 p.m., to recognize the commitment of 27 volunteers in the Haut-Saint-Laurent whose candidature was submitted by organizations or municipalities in the region. Volunteer of the Year will be unveiled during the evening.
The organizing committee recommends making reservations for the cocktail-dinner at $20 a ticket: come and network and celebrate the winners of the very first Volunteer Appreciation Gala.
