An out-of-court settlement was reached between the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC and its Director General, François Landreville, who took the town of Huntingdon and its former mayor, Stéphane Gendron, to court.

A $120,000  claim for damages and interest was deposited by the MRC and its director general for defamatory statements made by Stéphane Gendron.

The latter had alleged deficiencies and irregularities on the part of the Haut-Saint-Laurent MRC administration under the direction of François Landreville.

However, the MRC, François Landreville and their lawyer recently submitted an out-of-court settlement offer for the amount of $18,000 to the Town of Huntingdon and the municipal authorities agreed to end the litigation.

The insurance company for the Town of Huntingdon will pay $10,000  and the Municipality will assume the remainder of the debt ($8,000).

The Gleaner has tried on numerous occasions to contact the current Mayor of Huntingdon, André Brunette, for his comments on this issue but he has never returned their calls.
