The Athelstan Sports Committee awarded 84 children their participation medals on the evening of September 26th after a successful season of t-ball, soccer and softball.
Ball season drew to a close this past Wednesday, with the Athelstan Sports Committee throwing their annual end of summer BBQ to celebrate yet another successful turnout. This year the committee welcomed a record number of participants.
The committee, which hosted games on Monday and Wednesday nights for the duration of the summer, is run completely by volunteer efforts—with all funds raised being filtered back into the program. One of the priorities of the committee is to host both a fun and non-competitive season, allowing the children to truly enjoy themselves while getting in some old-fashioned exercise. The season traditionally wraps up just before school begins to allow the children and parents to get back into their routines. Once again this year, Bijouterie Ormstown Inc. donated the participation medals awarded to the children, which were all personally engraved.
One of the coordinators, Renée Sabetta-Cavers, was thrilled with the outcome of the season. “We were very happy with the success this year, and look forward to seeing all the new faces next year,” she said. As for future plans? “We are always looking for new coaches,” she added. The committee also hopes to outfit the children in sports pinnies next summer.
Next year, the tradition will carry on at the Athelstan Ball Park.
