On the 27, 28 and 29th of April, The Little Green Library will be offering a free book from their little bookstore to all visitors, members or not, in celebration of World Book and Copyright Day.

UNESCO founded World Book and Copyright day on April 23, 1995, with the intention to honour writers and literature and to promote the joy of reading, particularly amongst the young. The idea for this celebration was inspired by a custom that started in Catalonia, Spain where on the 23rd of April (Saint-George’s day) merchants would offer a rose with the purchase of a book. April 23rd is also renowned as the birth or death day of many famous literary figures, including William Shakespeare and Vladimir Nabokov.

Each year, UNESCO, in conjunction with international publishers, booksellers and libraries, selects a World Book Capital. 2017’s yearlong distinction goes to Conakry, Guinea for the diversity of its program and focus on youth and literacy.

The Little Green Library invites the community to come celebrate the importance of reading on April 27, 28 and 29th with a free book. The library is located at 4 Lorne Street, Huntingdon. Special thanks to Louise Charlebois for content.
