Since its inception over 40 years ago, the Chateauguay Valley Horse Club has been dedicated to offering a local horse show to the community. The family affair holds shows that are open to novices and experienced riders alike, offering over 40 classes in the Western and English disciplines.
The CVHC ensures that there are classes to suit the interests of all, from a jumper course to a showmanship class. In the same spirit, the club offers a lead line class that is open to beginners. This year, the club will hold its first show on Sunday, May 29th and hopes to hold another near the end of August.
This year, the organization has undergone some administrative changes. Last year’s president and riding coach Rose Huxted-Morrison resigned in order to dedicate more time to her students and showing, leaving her spot to Martin Coursol. As the Mercier resident is not a rider himself, it provides him with a unique perspective—something that will contribute to the efficiency of future horse shows. Debbie Lee Taylor will be taking up the role of secretary.
Each show operates on a 100% volunteer basis, meaning that volunteers are always welcome, as they play a monumental role in keeping the association up and running. Volunteers also add to the show’s sense of community, which is part of what makes the CVHC such a special organization. As for this season? “I’m looking forward to seeing the same old bunch and some new faces, as well. It really is a family show. As much as it’s competitive, everybody really does root for everybody else,” said long-time CVHC treasurer Tiffany Mcnaughton.
