Saturday, September 19th, the Chateauguay Valley Antique Association held its annual plow day at the residence of William Mason, located between Dewittville and Ormstown.

Over 14 tractors made their way to the CVAA’s annual Plow Day in the Chateauguay Valley this past weekend, travelling from both Canada and United States. The event, which was first established by the CVAA in 1986, is held at a different venue every year in order to effectively plow different pieces of land all while enjoying an annual tradition (last year’s event was held in a field along the 138 highway).

CVAA’s event is as much a social outing as it is an opportunity for drivers to plow. With lunch being served in the field on the sunny Saturday afternoon, the day turned into a celebration of sorts for drivers and spectators alike. As for the tractor driving, some individuals brought their own tractors, while others took turns using borrowed tractors, making it an interesting day for all—with treasured antique tractors vying for the honour of the longest plow.

By the end of the day, a field was ploughed and several drivers stood out above the rest. American Ross Goodyear of Ellenburg, New York, along with L’Assomption’s Leonard Payette brought their tractors the furthest distance, while Franklin’s Mario Beaulieu won a replica tractor model donated by Ronald O’Connor of Les Equipements Colpron Inc.

With the winter coming, the next event for the CVAA will be the association’s banquet, held on the 21st of November at the Huntingdon Legion.
