The Dewittville Bridge on Montée Rockburn is closed indefinitely for repairs.
On June 23rd, the bridge was first closed for a routine, annual inspection when they discovered problems with the integrity of the piers and foundation. Josée Séguin, a Transport Quebec representative commented: “We are currently looking at what repairs need to be done to stabilize the foundation before a time estimate on reopening the bridge can be given.”
Detour signs have been set up to redirect traffic. The bridge connects the municipalities of Godmanchester and Hinchinbrooke across the Chateauguay River in Dewittville. Motorists are directed to use the closest alternative crossing via Rue Henderson in Huntingdon. The next closest option is to traverse the river at Chemin Island in Ormstown.
