Albert De Martin, the ex-MNA for the Action Democratique du Quebec (ADQ), will be the Conservative Party of Canada candidate in the new riding of Salaberry-Suroit in the federal elections which will take place on October 19.

De Martin was elected MNA of Huntingdon county for a short period of time in 2007-2008 under the leadership of Mario Dumont. At that time, he was named agriculture critic when the ADQ formed the official opposition. Later he continued his militant ways until the fusion of that party with the CAQ.

Empassioned with politics, he then joined the Quebec Conservative Party, and he even became its interim chief. In April of 2014, he was the defeated candidate in the provincial elections for this party.

Beforehand, he had been a municipal councillor in Godmanchester for 13 years, from 1987 to 2000.

This time, the agriculturist is picking up the challenge of representing Stephen Harper’s party in the new riding which includes the electors from the regions of Beauharnois-Salaberry, Soulanges and Haut-Saint-Laurent.

« The Conservative government is a government which has kept its promises and has fulfilled its commitments, » De Martin says. « In the matter of economic and budgetary policies, Stephen Harper’s government can also congratulate itself. The Conservatives have presented a balanced budget with even a budgetary surplus and numerous fiscal alleviations for Canadians. »

During the coming weeks, he will make a tour of the county in order to make known the achievements of the government that is currently in power.

A rustic day is organized on August 15 at 1388 Route 138 in Godmanchester. He will benefit from the occasion to meet the members and Conservative sympathizers.
