If owning a home is an unrealized dream of yours, Habitat for Humanity Quebec’s latest collaboration with the Chateauguay Valley Career Education Centre (CVCEC) and the municipality of Ormstown might have an option for you.
The non-profit’s most recent project aims to provide two families with homes as soon as July 2017, provided applicants meet the criteria.
Criteria includes:
-Applicants must have held a stable job for the last two years and have a gross family income between $38,000-$55,000.
-Applicants must currently have a reasonable debt ratio and be able to meet financial obligations.
-Applicants must be willing to volunteer 500 hours of time (with family and friends) toward building the home (or other volunteer activities).
The Habitat for Humanity homes, which are being built by the Carpentry students on site at the CVCEC, are to be based in Ormstown, on a lot provided by the municipality. The semi-detached houses will boast four-bedrooms and be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified—a first for the New Frontiers School Board. The endeavour will also provide participating CVCEC students with LEED certification upon completion of the home. Such an endeavour will offer future homeowners with a “green home” that boasts substantial savings in energy costs.
The mortgage payments made by the families will then be reinvested by Habitat for Humanity in the construction of other homes in the province.
