On February 17th, Hemmingford resident Elsa Kramell will celebrate her 99th birthday.

Born in 1917 in East Prussia, Elsa immigrated to Montreal from her homeland in 1952 with her five children to meet her husband, who had migrated to Canada a year prior in search of work. Affectionately known to her family as ‘Oma” (German for grandmother), Kramell has lived in Hemmingford since 1955.

Known to many locals as the “Flower Lady of Hemmingford”, Kramell has volunteered her much of her time planting and maintaining the flowers at the Hemmingford Legion Cenotaph and around the Legion Hall. Becoming somewhat of a symbol for locals, Kramell is often found out on her patio on the warmer days, enjoying good weather chats while sipping on her daily cucumber gin and tonic. She currently lives at home in palliative care with her son, Karl Kramell.

So from all your children and 32 grand, great, and great, great grand children, Happy 99th Birthday Oma!
