The Haut-Saint-Laurent Community Nights continue to tour the territory and invite you to become more familiar with the services offered throughout our communities. This time, the event is taking place at the Athlestan Fire Station in Hinchinbrooke on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.
A ton of information on services for anyone between the ages of 0 and 100+ will be showcased to citizens of Athlestan and surrounding communities. Doors open at 4:30 pm. A spaghetti dinner will be offered free to visitors until 6:30 pm. A free drop-in daycare service will be available for children 0-7 years.
Home Safety Prevention Demonstrations
A team will be on site to present “The House of Justin”, an interactive and engaging 3D video game that provides awareness of the potential dangers for babies, children and adolescents who are in the house and safety behaviors to help prevent accidents! Firefighters from the Athelstan fire station invite people to come take a tour of their fire trucks at the same time.
These “community evenings” are intended as an opportunity to cultivate a sense of belonging in the Haut-Saint-Laurent by stimulating community development and creating networking opportunities for its citizens, all for free. This encourages networking and an opportunity to forge links between the French and English communities and more importantly between agencies and citizens. More than 25 groups have already confirmed their presence. Their missions ranging from offering sports and recreation, services for families and seniors, transportation, health services, culture, communication and environment as well as information on community support and development.
The organizing partners include the New Frontiers School Board (NFSB), the Community Learning Centres (CLC), the Commission scolaire de la Vallée-des-Tisserands (CSVT), the municipality of Hinchinbrooke, the Community Development Corporation (CDC) of Haut-Saint-Laurent, the Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) du Haut-Saint-Laurent, the Centre intégré de santé et services sociaux de la Montérégie-Ouest (CISSSMO)-territoire du Haut-Saint-Laurent (Integrated Health and Social services center in the Montérégie West), le Réseau 0-5 (0-5 Network), the Regroupement Jeunesse Rurale en Forme du Haut-Saint-Laurent (Rural Youth), Vision Volunteering Haut-Saint-Laurent; the organisations Moisson Sud-Ouest, La bouffe additionnelle; Leahy Orchards, Boucherie Poirier and the Milk Producers of the Montérégie West.
