There are a variety of activities organized by the Montérégie-Ouest Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux within the context of Quebec Tobacco-free Week which is taking place the week of January, 17 to 23.

Between thinking about it and making it happen, it is often difficult to quit. Quit smoking centres are there to help smokers with their resolve and offer the necessary support for achieving their goal.

Quit Smoking Centres (QSCs) at the Huntingdon CLSC (10, rue King) and the office in Saint-Chrysostome (21, rang Saint-Anne) offer smokers and ex-smokers in both towns private, confidential and free appointments. To register call 450 829-2321, ext. 1102.

Québec Tobacco-free Week

Coordinated by the Conseil québécois sur le tabac et la santé, Québec Tobacco-free Week mobilizes the public to confront this societal problem.

Tobacco causes 16 types of cancer, notably lung, oesophagus, pancreas, liver, cervical and colorectal cancer. Smoking is also the cause of other, often debilitating diseases including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and heart disease (source: www.mondesansfumee.ca). (M.P.-C.J.)
