On May 1st, local artist Catherine Farish will present her exhibition “Artifacts” at Alfred-Langevin Cultural Hall in Huntingdon. A Havelock resident, Farish’s work has been exhibited not only across North America, but in Mexico, Europe and parts of Asia.
The artist, who is a founding member of the Atelier Circulaire, an artist-run printmaking facility, is a graduate of the École du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal—she also holds a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Concordia University. With several notable awards under her belt, including the Grand Prize for Printmaking in Québec, the Acquisition Award from the City of Montreal and the Material Award in the Boston Printmakers Exhibition (to name a few), Farish is a local treasure. With 40 solo exhibitions to her name, the community will be thrilled to learn that her exhibition will run until the 29th of May.
After having continued her studies with a master printer in the French tradition of printmaking, Farish has spent the last 25 years experimenting and developing her own techniques. Her work, often described as “emotionally sophisticated and provocative”, is based on found objects. « These objects, everything from old tools and farm equipment to letter-press type and old stencils, used scraps of metal and forgotten household items, all help chronicle another era that traces the history of this region and its inhabitants, » explains the artist.
Farish’s work will be on display from May 1st to the 29th, Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. Entrance is free. Visits during the week require a reservation.
Please note that the vernissage will take place On May 1st at 2:00 P.M.
