The two culverts on the Upper Concession in Ormstown, which have been closed to traffic since last May, are to be repaired very soon. All that is required for the work to begin is approval from the ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Occupation du Territoire (MAMOT).

Significant cracks were discovered last spring in the culverts over the J. W. Martin and McArdle waterways. Construction Jacques Théorêt placed two bids for a total of $139,713.40. Five businesses submitted bids for these public contracts.

On September 8, Ormstown approved a loan by-law for $220,199 in preparation for the repairs. There were only five signatures on the register requesting a referendum.

Jocelyne Madore, interim Director General, explained that MAMOT must provide approval before the work can begin. This is a normal procedure when a loan is involved.

Ormstown planned to start work on the project September 26. « We were told that the file is being processed, » indicated Madore. « We hope that it will be dealt with quickly, it’s not easy for the people who have to take detours. »

According to the Director of Public Works, two weeks will be needed to complete the work. The Municipality had hoped to have the repairs finished before October. It will clearly require a few additional days.
