A resident of Howick lost about $1000 to Internet fraud when he connected with a woman from another country through a dating web site.
According to the Sûreté du Québec, the woman claimed she had family problems and was in need. She requested a certain amount of money from the 44 year old man to help her get out of the situation.
He agreed to her request and made a payment to an account in her name. It was not until sometime later that he realised this was fraud. He took his complaint to the police who have launched an enquiry.
