The municipality of Godmanchester voted for Bill Martin to fill the 5th councilor seat in the by-election held at the town hall on Sunday, February 28th.
Locals came out on a blustery winter day to vote by a clear majority for Bill Martin against candidate Daniel Vallée. The newly elected councilor will work together with Mayor Pierre Poirier and the current councilors until the next general election.
Bill Martin was pleased with the win after votes were tallied behind locked doors at 9pm. A longtime Dewittville resident, Mr. Martin is well known in the community as a farmer of 50 years, a parish councilor, and the Fire Chief of the Godmanchester Volunteer Fire Department.
This by-election was held to fill the seat left vacant by the tragic passing of David Lamb in September, 2015. A general election is currently scheduled for November 4, 2017.
