Ormstown city council has added its voice to those of residents who say they are exasperated at seeing brownish-coloured water coming out of their water faucets.

« We too are fed up, » said Mayor Chrystian Soucy to a citizen who had come to inquire about the situation at the council meeting of July 6.

The problem could be explained by a significant number of leaks in the network. In fact, the PGS firm has been mandated with a contract that could reach $4,500 in order to detect the leaks. The high number of leaks has forced the council to suspend construction permits.

Among the leaks in the network, a significant hole the size of a man on the Ormstown Fair site has the council concerned.

Some contracts for repairs and cleanups at two wells (totalling $18,182) and a hydrogeological study of wells Nos. 6 and 8 on range des Dumas (for $28,500) have also been granted Monday.

City Hall

The buildings situated at 3 and 7 Gale street, the place where the future city hall will be built, are going to fall under the demolition ball shortly. Beton Charly has obtained the contract for the sum of $32,620.

In the same vein, a geothermic study will be conducted on these lots by the G & S Consultants firm for the sum of $4,990. Still, none of the three companies approached to bid on the surveying of the lands dared to submit an offer.

A loan of $1.1 million has been ratified Monday in order to construct this new city hall. A grant will be reimbursed over a period of 20 years which covers 65% of the total bill projected.

Tribute to former mayor

A new park will be put in place near the Centennial Bridge renovated like new as the preceding council wished. This green space will bear the name of John Mcgaig in honour of the previous mayor.

Six lampposts have been installed on the bridge, so well that the Quebec Transport Ministry is going to bill the municipality $84,000.

Repairs to the mower

At least three councillors are indignant over the condition of the mower which must be repaired. More than $4,000 will be required to put it back in good shape. It appears that the driver may have struck a billboard, an event which left the council perplexed.
