On the morning of October 8th, local Conservative Candidate Albert De Martin hosted farmers at his home in Godmanchester to speak about the upcoming election.
On a sunny Thursday morning at 9:00 A.M., a bruncheon was hosted by Conservative candidate Albert De Martin in order to give him the opportunity to address farmers in the community. He was joined by the Honourable Denis Lebel (Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec). De Martin will be running for Conservative Party of Canada in the upcoming federal election.
De Martin, who served municipal councillor in Godmanchester from 1987 to 2000, has been involved in the local farming and agriculture industry for nearly 30 years. The former member of the Union des Producteurs Agricoles (UPA) addressed farmers in Godmanchester, stating that he feels that it is essential to have a Conservative representative in the area. “It is important to promote local business,” he announced to those in attendance. “The population of Quebec should be able to decide about their future,” he finished. When asked about the Trans-Pacific Partnership, De Martin stated that he believes that the agreement will end up benefiting the activity sectors, creating a surplus of jobs across Canada, especially considering the compensation that the farmers will receive over the next two years.
Lebel added on to De Martin’s statement about the importance of supporting local businesses. “If we don’t treat our employees well, how can we treat our clients well?” The Salaberry-Suroît Conservative representative was met with an enthusiastic response from those in attendance, before boarding the bus to Valleyfield.
