Bloc candidate for Salaberry-Suroît, Claude DeBellefeuille, was nominated for her ability to get people involved in completing projects in the region, starting with the creation of a safe bike path along the Beauharnois canal.

During a press conference held by the Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague Bridge, Ms DeBellefeuille began with this first election pledge. “I intend to set up a working committee with elected officials, people from the local cycling community, the MTQ, the Seaway and Hydro-Québec to find a concrete solution to the problem of an inter shore bike path for the bicycle touring industry. An issue that touches the Soulanges, Beauharnois-Salaberry and Haut-Saint-Laurent sectors.”

At the moment, certain possibilities are under study, including one to build a cantilevered bridge, but the price tag of $7.5 million would seem high given the current economic situation.

“We already have a bicycle touring infrastructure in the region, but it is essential to promote it by eliminating what constitutes an obstacle to its development, like the question of an inter shore bike path”, she states.

Supporting projects

Claude DeBellefeuille highlights her leadership qualities in order to convince voters that she is the best person for completing projects in the Salaberry-Suroît riding. She says she finds it surprising that the incumbent, Anne Quach, has not dealt with this issue over the past four years.

“It’s fine to make presentations in the House and hold information sessions, but projects can only come to fruition if a representative is able to engage people around a common objective and then defend these projects to key players in Ottawa. This is what I love to do, it’s one of my great strengths,” emphasizes Claude DeBellefeuille.
