On Saturday, May 7th, friends and family joined the students of Franklin Elementary School to spend the afternoon running, walking and biking in support of local Janick Tétreault-Moise and her cycling team, Équipe Vie en Forme.
Consisting of herself, Patrick Philie, Pierre Carry, Gail Comeau and Benjamin Charron, the quintet is set to participate in the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie. All funds they raise in their endeavour will go to Franklin Elementary and Edgar-Hébert Elementary School. Kicking off at Stevenson’s apple orchard, a jovial group of participants travelled 2.8 kilometers down the road with smiles, face paint and more than a few streamers. The sense of community that Franklin Elementary School is known for was evident as the group returned to Stevenson’s Orchard to enjoy apples, home baked squares and a drawing for the littler participants. The Franklin Fire Department was on hand to ensure everyone’s safety.
With 36 days to go until the race, Tétreault-Moise expressed her thanks to all that made it to the event to show their support—and earn their cubes—a challenge put to the students via Québec en Forme, known as the Energy Cubes Challenge. For those unfamiliar, students are awarded one cube per fifteen minutes of exercise. The schools with the most cubes are entered into a draw to win The Grand Prize Event, a two-day affair held over the same weekend as the Grand défi. The winners will enjoy a concert, dinner and accommodation for the night.
Rockburn’s Tétreault-Moise will begin her 60-hour 1,000-km cycling trek on the morning of June 16th. To donate, visit www.vieenforme1000.com, visit Tétreault-Moise’s Facebook page, or visit Grand défi Pierre Lavoie’s page at www.legdpl.com.
