More than 80 cannabis plants were eradicated in two different locations in the Haut-Saint-Laurent region on September 29 by officers with the Sûreté du Québec.

In Saint-Chrysostome, police uprooted 50 marijuana plants in a corn field located on Ruisseau Norton Rd North. These “pot” plants were discovered as a result of a police investigation.

In Très-Saint-Sacrement, detectives proceeded to uproot some 30 cannabis plants in a corn field located on route 209. This seizure was also the result of an SQ investigation.

Cottage burgled

Thieves broke into a cottage on 68e Avenue in Saint-Anicet and stole a variety of objects, including a television, a Blue Ray device and more, altogether valued at approximately $2000.

The theft was reported to police on September 26. The individuals gained entry by forcing the door.

Theft from a garage

A variety of tools were stolen from a garage located on Jamestown Rd in Ormstown during the night of September 26 into 27. The thieves broke the lock on the garage door to gain entry and took, in particular, a pair of sheet metal shearers and a two drawer tool box, worth approximately $1000. No one has been arrested in connection with this theft and an investigation is ongoing.

Man accused of voyeurism

 A resident of Saint-Chrysostome, Claude Rochefort, aged 56, has been charged with voyeurism and trespassing at night. He appeared at the Palais de justice in Valleyfield on September 30.

The man in his fifties had been arrested by the police 24 hours earlier. The allegations against him occurred on September 18 in Saint-Chrysostome. The victim in this case is a young woman aged 21.

Claude Rochefort already had a criminal case before the courts. On September14, he was charged with a sexual offence and had to appear again in court later on. According to the Sûreté du Québec, he was being kept in custody.

Motorcyclist injured

An off-road motorcycle accident injured a 31 year old woman, near Curran Rd in Saint-Anicet on September 26. The motorcyclist hit a tree and sustained minor injuries. She was taken to the Hôpital du Suroît in Valleyfield for first aid. According to the Sûreté du Québec, the woman was driving a stolen motorcycle. An investigation is ongoing to determine if the Godmanchester resident was involved in the theft or not.

Accident in Huntingdon

A driver in Huntingdon, stopped at a stop sign, was hit from behind by a young driver at the intersection of Henderson and Châteauguay Streets on September 24, in the late afternoon. The 62 year old man was slightly injured but did not want to be taken to hospital. The 17 year old young woman was unharmed.

Car set on fire

A fire completely destroyed a 2002 subcompact car on Demers Road in Franklin between September 23 and 24. The vehicle, which was owned by a Huntingdon resident, had been reported stolen. According to the Sûreté du Québec there were vehicle parts missing. Franklin firefighters extinguished the fire.
