Anne Minh-Thu Quach, the New Democratic MP for Salaberry-Suroît, is presenting a mixed review for the year just ending with positive results for some files and negative ones for others.
On the one hand, Quach is satisfied with the progress of a file like the Kathryn Spirit. « After five years of lobbying conservative and liberal ministers, the Kathryn Spirit file is well on the way to being resolved. A cofferdam should be under construction very soon. It has been a lot of hard work to move the Liberals and we’re finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll continue to monitor this file until the wreck is gone, » stated the MP.
She also reported on the petition that was launched recently to grant municipalities with shoreline more power to manage recreational boating and on the awareness campaign that held two information sessions during the year to promote buying local food and products.?
On the other hand, the MP for Salaberry-Suroît feels that the file on agriculture represents a complete failure for the Trudeau Government.
« The Liberals promised to deal with the file on milk diafiltration during the first six months of their mandate. The file is virtually dead in spite of protests from farmers and my appeals in the House of Commons. To that we can add the lack of compensation for milk producers with regard to the free-trade agreement that was signed with the European Union. Agriculture is clearly not a priority for the Government, » she claimed.?
Quach also deplores « broken promises » by the Liberal Government such as electoral reform, the file on the environment, or the Youth Portfolio and young people under 24 with precarious jobs.
« I hope that 2017 brings greater accountability and transparency in this file. Young people must be heard and the Minister of Youth must answer questions » stated MP Anne Quach.
