The idea behind the Huntingdon Sport-o-thèque is to encourage physical activity by lending out quality equipment. Financial constraints will no longer be an issue.

Opened on June 20, the Huntingdon Sport-o-thèque will function like a municipal library. A yearly membership will cost $10 for an individual user or $25 for a family. At this point, members have the privilege of borrowing sports equipment free of charge for up to a week.

« Our objective is that all families have access to equipment whatever their financial situation, » explained Vanessa Théoret from Jeunesse rurale en forme. « We hope to encourage people to be more active; moving by doing physical activity. There are no territorial restrictions, meaning that non residents can also become members. »

When it came time to purchase equipment, the management at Sport-o-thèque did not skimp on quality or quantity. « There is something here for everyone, » indicated Joelle Daoust, Project Manager of the Sport-o-thèque. « We have kayaks, tennis rackets, baseball gloves, balls and even bicycles. »

In the winter, the borrowing resource, which is financed by a variety of partners, will offer a wide choice of snowshoes, hockey and ball hockey equipment.

Please note that the Sport-o-thèque will be open 12 months a year. During the school year, it will be located at Heritage School, 21 King St. in Huntingdon. It will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. During the summer months, the Sport-o-thèque will move to the Maison des jeunes, 1 Arthur-Pigeon St. in Huntingdon, however, the opening hours will be changed. The plan is for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
