This year, Opération Nez rouge in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield hopes to fulfill its ambitious goal of bringing more than 1000 drivers safely home who have decided that “Ça finit toujours bien” (All’s well that ends well) with the drive-you-home service.

Now in its 25th year in Valleyfield, Opération Nez rouge will be under the auspices of the Fondation Tournesol pour les enfants d’ici. “This will be our 4th year participating,” emphasized Nadège Fortin, Director General of the Fondation Tournesol pour les enfants d’ici. “Our objective is 1000 drives for a total of $30,000. We will need generous customers.”

In order for Opération Nez Rouge to function well, it is important to have the maximum number of volunteers each evening. For 2015, the organizing committee is launching the Nez rouge bucket challenge. “It was inspired by the Ice bucket challenge,” explained Ms Fortin. “However, in place of making a donation, the people named commit to volunteering for an evening. Videos are published on our Facebook page. I’m also inviting people to subscribe on our Nez Rouge Valleyfield page.”

New control centre

Even though everything will function as before, there has been a significant change. With support from the City of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, the control centre is moving this year into the former convent of the Sœurs Dominicaines located at 247 chemin Larocque in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.

“We’re happy to offer a new facility to Opération Nez rouge,” said François Labossière, Deputy Mayor of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. “At the same time I have committed to becoming a volunteer this year and I’m challenging all city employees to do the same.”

The honorary director of the 2015 edition is Ann Minh-Thu Quach our federal MP. This will not be her first time working for the drive-you-home service since she volunteered last year with the mascot team. “I have launched an invitation to my volunteers to come and do an evening of drive- you-home service and I’ve also extended the challenge to all the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” admitted Mrs Quach.
