The budget that was adopted in Ormstown for 2017 indicates a 2.38 % increase in municipal taxes.

This means $0.658  per $100 of evaluation for a residence, compared to $0.643  in 2016. For the agricultural sector the amount is $0.35  and $1.169  for a residence per $100  of evaluation.

Revenue from municipal taxes will therefore climb to $2 595 322.66, an increase of nearly 10%. The total revenue next year for this municipality with a population of approximately 3 200 will reach $4 110 173.98.

Among the expenses, there is a significant increase of $252 615.97 for the roads. Philipe Toone, Director General for the municipality, has indicated that the roads will run more efficiently now with a full time employee hired for the first time in three years.

Drinking water

Drinking water is the major project for next year. « The system is old and the carrying capacity is insufficient for the growth of the municipality, » emphasized Toone. « We’re talking about $3.5 million which includes the cost of disinfection. If all goes well, the boil water advisory should be dealt with by February. For the work as a whole, we’re talking about March, 2018. »

The certificate of authorization has been issued by Québec. « The project is in the hands of the engineers and it should go out to tender by spring, » explained the Director General. « We have been collaborating with the ministère des Affaires municipales, et de l’occupation du territoire to fix flaws that have existed for a long time. »

Bear in mind that the municipality had until December 22 to receive submissions for installing an upgraded chlorination system at the Dumas reservoir.
