A valuable crop was harvested on September 15 and 16 by officers with the Haut-Saint-Laurent Sûreté du Québec who took part in Operation Cisaille a program to eradicate marijuana plants in the territory.

Over two days, the police managed to uproot no fewer than 2000 cannabis plants in agricultural fields in seven municipalities including Hinchinbrooke, Godmanchester, Saint-Anicet, Dundee, Ormstown, Saint-Chrysostome and Très-Saint-Sacrement.

The total harvest came to 1 ½ tons and since one “pot” plant can be worth up to $1,500 on the black market, the crop could be valued at over 3 million dollars although this information has not been corroborated by the Sûreté du Québec.

The cannabis plants were discovered as a result of an investigation and a number of search techniques.

The officers arrested an individual in Ormstown. The man was questioned but then released. If charged, he will be summoned to appear at the Valleyfield Palais de justice.
