Spring Cleaning for a Cause: The Municipality of Dundee Gears Up for Annual Salvation Army Donation
Carrying on a tradition that began just after 1972, the municipality of Dundee will be collecting their annual donation to the Salvation Army on May 19th.
Initially started by the Women’s Institute, the collection originally went to locals in the area, back when the Salvation Army still had a presence in the community. “It was started as a way to support Dundee residents, as many families were in need,” said municipality director general David Fraser. According to Fraser, the town hall’s conference room was filled from wall to wall with donations last year, which speaks to the generosity of the locals.
In 2014, one of the last remaining members of the now concluded Dundee branch of the Women’s Institute, Dawn Fleming, handed off the reins to the town. These days, the annual collection is brought to the Montreal branch of the Salvation Army, as the non-profit’s proceeds go to helping those in need. The collection is also a great way for locals to purge items that are no longer in use—just in time for spring cleaning.
This year, the collection will take place on Thursday, May 19th, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Dundee town hall, located at 3296 Smallman. All donations will be accepted with the exception of televisions, mattresses and large furniture. Contact 450-264-4674 for further information.
