The Huntingdon Huskies Pee-Wee A Hockey Team Wins a Third Tournament
This team of 11 and 12 year old hockey players is having the season of their lives. They finished the regular season with 21 victories, no losses and 3 ties. They had already won 2 tournaments this season before winning the Tournoi national de hockey pee-wee de Cap-de-la-Madeleine in Trois-Rivières at the beginning of February.
Twenty-six teams competed in the PeeWee A category. The Huskies won 4 tough games in 2 days to qualify for the semi-final game. The games were close but the boys played well and emerged victorious. The semi-final game at 8 am on Sunday morning against the Sorel-Tracy Mariners 1 was a close contest between 2 evenly matched teams. The Huskies played hard and won 4-3. This victory put the Huskies into the final at noon against the St-Rémi Éclairs. Both teams were equally motivated and evenly matched. The first period ended 0-0. The Éclairs scored in the second period to end period 1-0. The Huskies came roaring back with 2 goals in the first 40 seconds of the third period. The Éclairs coach called a timeout to settle his players. St-Rémi tied the game and then mid-way through the period the Huskies got the go ahead goal. They scored into an empty net to win the game 4-2. Thus the Huskies brought home their third "Champion" banner of the season.
Parents and friends were very proud of these young players. The coaches were also very pleased. The head coach commented "All through the tournament the players showed a lot of character, teamwork and determination. This is what allowed us to win."
