The Huntingdon Huskies Peewee A hockey team won the Pierre Laniel Tournament in Beauharnois at the beginning of January.

The first game matched the Huskies against the Lynx from St. Constant. The teams were evenly matched but in the end the Huskies defeated the Lynx 4-2. Defenseman Brian Sproule was named star of the game, scoring 2 goals and playing well defensively.

The second game of the tournament pitted the Huskies against the Titans from Vaudreuil-Dorion.  The Huskies dominated the game winning 7-0. Braeden Bergevin scored 4 goals on his way to winning star of the game.

The third game was a contest between the Huskies and their rivals, the Patriotes, from Beauharnois. The Huskies came out strong scoring 4 goals in the first period. The Patriotes scored early in the second period before the Huskies scored 4 more goals to end the game 8-1. Justin Millette was named star of the game with a solid performance. This win allowed the Huskies to advance into the finals, meeting up once again against the Lynx from St. Constant.

As the Zamboni exited the ice, the lights were turned off in the arena. There were 2 strips of lights on the ice for the players to skate between. As the players were introduced, their picture, name and number were projected on to the ice.

The Huntingdon players were motivated for this game as they felt that the game against the Lynx in the first game of the tournament was the hardest competition that they faced this season. The Huskies scored 2 goals before the Lynx replied with a goal. The first period ended 2-1. In the second period the Huskies came out hard and fast, scoring 3 goals in the first 87 seconds of the period. The game ended with a 6-2 Huskies victory. Braeden Bergevin was named first star of the game with his third hat trick of the tournament. Xavier Beauvais was named third star of the game.

After the game, Ashton Carvery, right winger for the Huskies summed up their effort saying, ?We have been playing like a team and that’s why we win.?

Michel Taillefer, assistant coach, of the Huskies commented on the team’s success this year saying, "The team has really come together this year. The majority of the boys have been playing together for years with limited success but this year they are having a great season."
