For the past seven years, the Valley Farmers organization has been making donations in order to support Expo Ormstown, a local fair that is a treasured event in the Chateauguay Valley community.
Headed up by Ormstown resident and retired farmer Bert Pit, the organization’s contributions go towards improving the agriculture aspects of the fair, such as the 4-H activities, horse shows, agriculture awareness and the friendship tent. With almost thirty farmers donating every year, the Valley Farmers are considered platinum level supporters to the expo—this year, donations exceeded $7,000.
“Many of the farms who donate have long histories with the fair—some have exhibited since the beginning, or have family members who were directors on the original board,” says Pit, who gathers funds throughout the year. In 2016, the 102nd edition of the Expo Ormstown will take place from June 9th-12th. Last year’s expo welcomed 15,000 guests over the weekend, so be sure to get your tickets early. As for this year’s theme? Why blue jeans and country dreams, of course.
